‘Trojan Horse’ Strategy: Guilt-Free Leisure through Purposeful Activities
How Might WeLeverage service design to create stroller-friendly leisure experiences in Hounslow that overcome geographical and economic barriers that can enable mothers of children aged 0-3 to enjoy guilt-free leisure through purposeful activities, promoting social connections within the community ?
Key Considerations
Design within the right scale and scope
Ensure ethical and sustainable impacts
Implement on-time to make changes
Theory of Change, a Stroller-Friendly Swap Initiative
In Hounslow, while supermarket strolling offers a low-guilt leisure option for mothers, large supermarkets are far from residential areas, requiring over 40 minutes of travel. Nearby convenience stores and lottery shops lack stroller-friendly spaces, failing to meet mothers' hidden leisure needs.
Based on the insight that traditional supermarkets meet mothers' hidden leisure needs, we aim to use government and nonprofit resources to create more inclusive and accessible leisure services. This will connect mothers with the community, break isolation, build social support, and enhance quality of life and mental health.
